“FINVALIA WILL LAY THE FOUNDATIONS FOR A MORE COMPETITIVE, SUSTAINABLE AND DIGITALISED WOOD INDUSTRY”
Finsa has been in the industrial wood transformation sector since 1931, and is one of the four companies involved in FINVALIA. We spoke with José Manuel Sánchez Expósito, the project manager within the company.

What role does your company play in the Finvalia project?
Finsa is one of the four companies —alongside Puertas Vales, Couceiro and Foresa— that form part of the consortium promoting the FINVALIA project. Our position is quite unique, as we have one of the consortium companies as a supplier and the other two as clients.
This setup allows us to approach the project from a very transversal perspective, which is a great asset for the development of solutions. Due to our large scale and wide scope within the project, we naturally take on a greater role in its evolution.
What does your previous experience bring to the development of solutions in this project?
At Finsa, we have a strong track record and extensive experience in the wood industry. Our expertise ranges from the production of boards and sawn wood to more advanced solutions for construction and interior design. This experience allows us to bring deep knowledge of production processes, market needs and the technological challenges of the sector. Additionally, our prior experience with integrating new technologies and optimising supply chains supports the development and implementation of innovative solutions within Finvalia.
What specific challenges do you aim to address through digital transformation?
Through digital transformation, we aim to tackle several key challenges. First, we want to optimise the efficiency of our internal processes, from raw material management to distribution logistics, minimising errors and reducing variability. Secondly, we intend to improve traceability and transparency throughout the value chain, allowing us to offer more sustainable products with more information for consumers. Finally, we aim to strengthen connection and collaboration with our suppliers and clients, creating a more integrated ecosystem that can respond swiftly to market demands.
What benefits do you expect to gain —internally and for the sector— in the medium term?
In the medium term, we expect to achieve significant benefits both internally and for the sector. Internally, we foresee a notable improvement in productivity, a reduction in operational costs and greater agility in decision-making thanks to real-time data availability.
For the sector, Finvalia will lay the foundations for a more competitive, sustainable and digitalised wood industry. We expect the project to drive the adoption of new technologies, encourage collaboration between companies and generate new business opportunities, contributing to added value across the entire wood value chain.
How do you envision the future of the wood industry after initiatives like Finvalia?
We envision a future where the wood industry becomes a benchmark in innovation and sustainability. Thanks to initiatives like Finvalia, we see a more connected sector, where information flows efficiently between all stakeholders, from raw material origin to the final product. We believe digital transformation will enable greater product customisation, more efficient forest resource management and a reduced environmental footprint. Ultimately, a future in which wood is consolidated as a key material in sustainable construction and the circular economy, driving the economic and social development of our region.
