That article introduced the challenge: adapting a technology known for almost a century to a very current need in the engineered wood industry \u2014 recovering fibre from MDF boards and enabling its reuse in new production processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we can share a relevant update: the pilot has completed its technical scale-up from laboratory tests, launching a demonstrator designed to operate continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a nominal capacity of <strong>1 tonne per hour<\/strong>. It is already achieving <strong>the recovery of 90% of the fibre <\/strong>used in the production process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This progress represents a decisive step within Finvalia\u2019s strategy to develop <strong>more sustainable industrial solutions<\/strong>, aimed at reducing waste, optimising resources and moving towards more circular production models. The purpose of the pilot is to recover and reuse the wood fibre contained in discarded MDF boards, allowing it to be reincorporated into the manufacture of new boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From technical feasibility to a demonstrator<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moving from a laboratory test to a demonstrator means <strong>validating how the process behaves under real conditions<\/strong>, ensuring operational continuity and adjusting all the elements involved in the preparation, treatment, separation and cleaning of the fibre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the case of the Steam Explosion pilot, Finvalia was starting from a particularly complex challenge: <strong>there was no established industrial application for MDF recycling using this technology<\/strong>. For this reason, development has required step-by-step progress in process engineering, the manufacture of specific equipment and the adaptation of the line to the needs of the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The line is now in a pilot phase to assess a demonstrator <strong>with 24\/7 industrial capacity and a nominal capacity of 1 tonne per hour<\/strong>. This opens the door to obtaining more representative data on efficiency, process stability and the quality of the recovered fibre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">90% recovered fibre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work carried out so far places the recovery rate of usable fibre at around 90%. This means that approximately<strong> 90%<\/strong> of the fibre obtained through this process can be used as a substitute for fibre generated through the traditional refining system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a particularly significant result because <strong>fibre quality <\/strong>is one of the major determining factors in MDF recycling. For the recovered material to be reincorporated into the production process, it must retain the appropriate characteristics for subsequent use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even so, the pilot remains in an improvement phase. Work is currently being carried out in the fibre cleaning area with the aim of <strong>increasing this percentage further<\/strong> and optimising the performance of the recovered material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lower steam consumption, greater process efficiency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another area of progress focuses on<strong> the pressurised equipment within the installation<\/strong>.
